Guy Penrod performs at Bethel University

Seven-time Grammy and Dove award winner Guy Penrod will perform in concert at Benson Great Hall on the campus of Bethel University on Sunday, May 20, at 2 p.m.  The concert is hosted by Music for the Master, a non-profit organization created to facilitate bringing inspirational musicians to the Twin Cities. Penrod performed before more than 5 million people on Bill and Gloria Gaither's Homecoming Tours, including those in South Africa, Australia and Europe, and was featured on Gaither television specials airing on multiple networks. Now he's gone solo and brings his own style of country gospel music to Benson Great Hall. Although he loves Southern gospel and the multi-layered vocal stylings of the Gaither Vocal Band, Penrod's country roots run deep, too. In addition to his experience with Music City Tonight, he's also recorded with artists such as Kenny Chesney and Shania Twain, and recently debuted at The Grand Ole Opry.

Waylon Jennings' Final Recordings

An album featuring some of the final recordings from country legend Waylon Jennings is scheduled to be released September 11th. Goin’ Down Rockin’: The Last Recordings of Waylon Jennings will be filled with recordings that Waylon made during his last few years before his death in 2002, helped by his longtime accompanist, Robby Turner. Waylon wrote all but one of the 12 songs on the new album.

Aaron Lewis will be releasing a full length country album, The Road, on June 26th.

Lewis wrote every song on the 10 track collection, except for "Grandaddy’s Gun", which was written by Bobby Pinson, Rhett Akins, and Dallas Davidson. 

Last year, the Staind frontman released his successful solo EP, Town Line, and Gold single “Country Boy," which featured country legends George Jones & Charlie Daniels.

Alt-folk rocker, Citizen Cope (real name Clarence Greenwood), is an accomplished songwriter whose songs have been performed by Santana, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Dido and numerous others.

In a style that Rolling Stone called “hip-hop with folk, soul and blues,” Cope has compiled a large and extremely dedicated following. His most notable tracks include “Let The Drummer Kick,” and “Sideways.” In 2010, he bucked tradition and started his own record label, Rainwater Records, releasing a new full-length album, The Rainwater LP, the same year. His next album is scheduled for release later this year.

After lying about his age to perform in a Tulsa, Okla., nightclub, Russell’s career started out at age 14 touring with Ronnie Hawkins & The Hawks in support of icon, Jerry Lee Lewis. After moving to Los Angeles and studying with Elvis’ lead guitarist, James Burton, Russell soon became a member of Phil Spector’s legendary renowned studio group. Russell played on many of the finest pop singles of the 1960s, and arranged classics like Ike & Tina Turner’s “River Deep, Mountain High,” The Byrds’ “Mr. Tambourine Man,” Gary Lewis & The Playboy’s “This Diamond Ring” and Herb Alpert’s “A Taste of Honey.”

His first songwriting hit, “Delta Lady,” sung by Joe Cocker opened the doors for mainstream notoriety. He would appear on George Harrison’s Concert for Bangladesh, sessions with B.B. King, Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan. In 1972, his pop single, “Tight Rope,” became a hit. In 1979, his duet with Willie Nelson, “Heartbreak Hotel,” hit No. 1 on the Billboard country music chart.

His recent collaboration with Bernie Taupin and Elton John, The Union, has received critical acclaim and is further proof that Russell is essential to music’s past and future.

His self-dubbed ‘acoustic soul’ style first came to light while touring with The Derek Trucks Band. He released Javier (2003) and Left of Center (2006) for Capitol Records. The albums showcase Colon’s stirring melodies.

As a contestant on The Voice, Colon performed alongside Stevie Nicks on “Landslide” and garnered rave reviews for his acoustic rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time.” His self-penned “Stitch By Stitch” sealed the top prize.

“Stitch By Stitch” peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100. Colon performed the honest, heartfelt ballad on national programs, including the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Colon’s most recent release “As Long As We Got Love” features British pop star, Natasha Bedingfield; the duet magically weaves their perfect harmonies.

Earth, Wind & Fire to perform at PACER’s May 5 benefit

Earth, Wind & Fire – one of America’s top-selling musical groups of all time – is bringing its soul-funk fusion to PACER Center’s 30th Annual Benefit on Saturday, May 5, at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Tickets are available now.

“They sold out the house when they performed at a previous PACER Benefit,” says Paula Goldberg, PACER’s executive director. “People were dancing in the aisles at that show, and we’re looking forward to another fantastic evening.”

Inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, Earth, Wind & Fire has earned six Grammy Awards and four American Music Awards alongside numerous other accolades. The band recently received the prestigious Legend Award at the 2011 Soul Train awards on Nov. 27, 2011. On Jan. 31, the band will release a new album, “Now, Then & Forever,” what Legacy Recordings calls “the ultimate single-disc celebration of Earth, Wind & Fire.”

In addition to the Earth, Wind & Fire concert, PACER’s benefit includes silent and live auctions. The evening begins at 6 p.m., and tickets start at $65. A pre-benefit gourmet dinner is available by separate ticket, and a post-concert patron party is available for people purchasing Benefit tickets of $140 or more.

Tim McGraw to release "Emotional Traffic"

Tim McGraw & Curb Records will be getting the new year off & running with the release of Tim's new album, Emotional Traffic, on January 24th. The album was produced by Tim's longtime producer, Byron Gallimore.

Emotional Traffic includes 12 new tracks, with "Felt Good On My Lips" as the first single released, which has already been certified digital gold. His current single from the album, "Better Than I Used To Be", has just recently been released and is now climbing the charts.

Tim collaborates with R&B pop artist Ne-Yo on "Only Human". Other highlights include "I will not fall down", a song co-written by Tim, Martina McBride and The Warren Brothers.
